Escape Road: a getaway you steer with two keys
Escape Road came out of the Vietnamese studio AZ Games at the turn of 2025 (the build on this page is v1.0, stamped January 2025) and spread through school Chromebooks within months, for the same reason Crossy Road did a decade earlier: it is instantly readable. A blocky city, a red getaway car parked outside a bank, and one line on screen — press A, D or the arrows to start. The car takes off on its own. Police cars appear behind you. Everything after that is you choosing left or right a few times a second while the score ticks up.
What keeps it going past the first minute is the escalation. One squad car becomes three, then a road block across the avenue, then army jeeps and a tank. Traffic — buses, tankers, taxis — never gets out of your way. The cash you grab on the road buys cars from a 90-vehicle garage sorted into common, rare, epic and legendary tiers, and a few of those cars change the rules: one earns cash five times faster, another drops oil behind it. The build on this page is the developer's own Unity game hosted here, with the daily, weekly and all-time leaderboards live and no pre-roll ad in front of it.
Controls & mechanics
| Action | Control | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Steer left | A or Left arrow | Tap for a lane nudge, hold for a full turn; the car keeps rolling while you turn |
| Steer right | D or Right arrow | Same thing the other way; alternate quick taps to snake between cars |
| Start a run | Any steer key, or tap the screen | The car pulls out of the bank lot the moment you press |
| Pause | Pause button, top left | A big play arrow resumes; the speaker button underneath it mutes the sound |
| Garage | Car button, bottom left | Browse and buy from the 90 cars, then the play arrow starts a run in the one you picked |
| Leaderboards | Podium button, bottom left | Today, week, month and all-time boards with region flags; your P- code is your entry |
| Touch | Tap the left or right half of the screen | Same steering on a phone or a touchscreen Chromebook |
How to last longer than the first road block
- Look at the road two blocks ahead: The camera sits high enough to show what is coming. Decide your lane while the obstacle is still at the top of the screen; if you steer when it is next to you, the car's turning circle is already too wide.
- Tap, do not hold: A held key swings the car through a full turn and usually into a building. Single taps move you about a lane's width, and two quick taps in the same direction are a clean double-lane change.
- Use the grass and the lots: Nothing says you have to stay on the road. Parking lots, lawns and the space between towers are all drivable, and the police follow the roads more than you do.
- Cash is the real score: The score counter resets every run; the green cash counter does not. Detour for the money bundles on the road, because the garage cars are what make later runs easier.
- Let the cops crash into traffic: Squad cars chase in a straight line toward you. Cut across a lane of oncoming buses and the car behind you often does not make it.
- Pick a fast car before a long run: The rarer garage cars are quicker off the line and hold a lead on the police that the starting car cannot. Buy speed before looks.
Key features
- Two-key controls: Left and right only; the car never brakes and never stops. Everything comes down to how early you steer.
- Escalating pursuit: Police cars first, then road blocks across whole avenues, army jeeps and a tank the longer you stay on the run; a sheriff badge marks every unit chasing you, on screen or just off it.
- A 90-car garage: Pickup trucks, a school bus, a tuk-tuk, a hovercraft, a time machine, a tank destroyer; four rarity tiers and a lucky wheel that spins for cash or a new car.
- Perk cars: Some vehicles change the run: faster cash, oil slicks that spin the cops, extra durability.
- Live leaderboards: Daily, weekly, monthly and all-time tables with country flags, straight from the game's own server.
- Voxel city: Blocky towers, banks, taxi depots and gas stations rendered in 3D, running at full speed on a Chromebook.

Pro tip: The first police car spawns behind you a few seconds into every run and drives faster than you on a straight road. Make your first turn early — a right at the first junction — so it has to corner too, and it loses half its lead every time you do it again.
